Smiths Detection to provide maintenance for TSA X-ray systems across U.S. - Regional Gateway

Oct 16, 2024

Smiths Detection, a developer of threat detection and security screening technologies, has announced a seven-year contract to support TechFlow’s Integrated Logistics Support Contract with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to maintain baggage X-ray systems at U.S. airports.

With ever-growing passenger traffic in airports that is expected to double by 2040, the TSA’s work has skyrocketed, with a recent figure of 3 million passengers screened on 7 July 2024, and a total of 858 million passengers in 2023. Maintaining technology systems for baggage, handling, and security is vital to ensuring smooth operations for airports.

The contract establishes that Smiths Detection will provide preventative maintenance and repairs for its Explosive Detection Systems (EDS), including the CTX 5800, CTX 9000, CTX 9400 and CTX 9800 SEIO scanners. Currently, the company has 486 systems installed across 41 airports.

“Smiths Detection is proud to announce our continued commitment to servicing our fleet of EDS machines in airports across the United States,” said Ray Roberge, VP of Service at Smiths Detection. “We have built a highly skilled service organisation that positions technicians and parts fulfilment centres in key locations across the country to meet our customers’ needs quickly and efficiently, while delivering world-class service. Our innovative technology and world-class customer service has positioned us as a trusted partner within the aviation security industry. Each day we remain focused on making the world a safer place.”
