Fire department finds deceased man following smoke detector alert in Syracuse

The Syracuse Police Department is investigating a death on Ashdale Avenue.
Around 2:45 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9 the Syracuse Fire Department was called to a home on the 200 block of Ashdale Avenue for a smoke detector activation.
When they entered the building, they found a deceased man was inside. Fire department investigators remained at the home for nearly 12 hours after the first call came in.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and an investigation into the man’s death is being conducted with the Syracuse fire and police departments working together.
